NELL HOLCOMB R-IV PHILOSOPHY & MISSION STATEMENT

A philosophy of education is the foundation on which a school district is built and upon which the product of the school program is evaluated. The philosophy herein subscribed to by the Board of Education shall be a guide in determining the policies, rules, and regulations of the school district.

Recognizing each student as a unique individual, we believe that education should provide an opportunity for the maximum development of each individual within the limitations of his or her capacities.

We believe that in a democratic society, education must help the student realize his or her worth as an individual and should lead him or her toward becoming a productive member of society.

We believe that the foundation of the district's educational program is based on the development of the competencies in the basic fundamental of reading, oral, and written communication and mathematics.

We believe that parents have a desire to participate in the education of their children.

We believe that students are special, unique, and that all can learn.

We believe that parents share the responsibilities of providing a quality educational program for the students of the district.

We believe the school is responsible for providing a safe learning environment for all students.

We believe that the community, parents, school personnel, and students are responsible for student achievement.

We believe that community patrons and stakeholders must work together to develop character and values that will empower students to uphold the ideas of a democratic society.

We believe the role of the teacher is to provide students with opportunities to achieve at their maximum level, to create motivation for learning as a stimulus for achievement, and to model the principles of good behavior.

It is, therefore, the mission of the Nell Holcomb R-IV School District to provide the educational opportunities for the children of the district, in a manner that will challenge them to achieve their highest potential.
